Signs It’s Time to Upgrade Your Tech
7 months ago | Blogs | by: ELECTRONOOBS

Technology is evolving faster than we ever thought possible. If you currently have a drawer full of old mobile phones, iPads, even the old iPod Touch, then it's time to take your technology and sell it so that you can get some money back for a new piece.

All technology older than a few years is pretty much obsolete these days, so you need to know when it's time to upgrade so that you don't end up with a draw full of leftover gadgets, and instead you can trade in an upgrade to the next tech item. It's very easy to get comfortable with your old device, especially when it still works. But if you are hanging onto a piece of technology that's way past its prime, has slowed right down, and is now starting to hold you back, it might be time to make the leap into something new. But how do you know when it's a good time? Here are the big signs that it is time to upgrade your technology and embrace the future.

1. Your mobile phone is starting to age

It doesn't matter where you go, you'll always see people with their phones in their hands. The most obvious tech upgrade to start with is your mobile phone. If you're battling slow performance, your battery is starting to drain too fast, or you don't have enough storage in your phone anymore, it might be time to consider an upgrade.

The newer phones on the market are more powerful, faster, and they come with a huge amount of upgraded features that make your life easier. The best part is that you can sell your old phone and use the money towards your new one, so you get a discount on your next tech purchase, too. If your phone is getting glitchy, or if it's just not keeping up with what you need anymore, then it's time to let it go.

2. Your tech keeps freezing and crashing

If you're in the middle of something important on your laptop or your phone freezes for seems like an eternity, then there's a problem with your device. You can run it through as many resets in factory settings as you want, but if it's constantly freezing and crashing, then it's time for an upgrade.

With newer technology, crashes and freezes are much less frequent, and the overall experience is so much better. You need stable, reliable tech so that you can continue working, browsing the Internet, or just messaging your friends. You don't have to waste time waiting for your device to catch up.

3. Your battery just doesn't last

One of the most important things to consider when you're thinking about a tech upgrade is battery life. If you find yourself constantly hunting for a charger or you keep using your phone while it's on charge, it might be time for a change. Batteries degrade overtime, and what was once an all day device now struggles to last a few hours.

Choosing to upgrade to a new model with a better battery performance means that you can stay productive for longer, and you won't be tethered to a charger all day. This isn't just related to mobile phones, either, not when laptops are the same.

4. You really can't keep up with the software updates

It's clever that software updates are mostly performed remotely these days. Technology companies release regular updates to improve performance, security and upgrade features. If you've been using a device that's no longer supported with updates, your system may become vulnerable to security threats. You might also miss out on cool new features.

All the phones, for example, may not support the latest operating systems. This doesn't just leave you behind in terms of security, but the functionality can really be different to what you expect. Upgrading your device will ensure that you always are up to date with the latest and greatest software.

5. Your device no longer accepts new apps or features

Have you ever tried to download a new app only to find that your device is too old to keep it running? If your technology is not compatible with the latest software and applications, this is a very clear sign that it's time to upgrade. New games, apps, and features will require more processing power hardware.

They need these to be able to work properly, and if your current technology cannot keep up, you may be missing out on some amazing experiences and tools.

6. Your tech no longer meets your storage needs

Running out of storage space can be a major hassle. Whether it's music, photos, or apps, constantly seeing that storage full notification can really impede your ability to use your device effectively. If it's on your computer or laptop, you can get an external storage device, but it's a lot trickier when it's your phone that's the problem.

If you're constantly deleting files, offloading your apps, or you're relying on external storage devices, it may be a good time to upgrade to something with more space. Newer models will often have larger storage options, so you won't have to panic about running out of any space anytime soon.

7. Your device is too bulky

Portability is so important these days, and you shouldn't have to lug around a heavy device anymore. If you're using a laptop that's thicker than a brick, or you're dealing with a phone that's too big for your pocket, you need an upgrade. Newer devices are designed to be thinner, more compact, and lighter.

The best part is they could be all of these things without sacrificing their performance. Whether you're travelling for work or you need something that fits better in your hand or your bag, upgrading to a better, sleeker model can make all the difference.

8. Your device is scratched

Wear and tear happens overtime, and the more you use your tech, the more likely it is to show signs of aging. Scratches on your screen, a cracked case, or buttons that no longer work properly can make it very frustrating to use your device. If the physical state of your device is affecting its functionality, or your user experience has been compromised, you may have to consider an upgrade.

This is not just about aesthetics anymore. Physical damage can really impact idolise works and you could end up losing valuable information just because you didn't upgrade when you could have.

9. You're spending a lot of money on repairs

If you're spending a lot of money on repairing your technology, then you may as well spend the money on the upgrade. Sometimes, the cost of repairing an old device can be almost as much as buying new. It's time to cut your losses and upgrade.

Viewer devices are less likely to break down and plenty of them offer extended warranties that cover common issues. With the money you save repairs, he can put it towards a shiny new tech upgrade.

10. It's just not performing anymore

When you bought your technology, it was marketed as fast, powerful, and high performing. If it's not living up to those expectations anymore, you're no longer getting your money's worth. You may notice that your device is sluggish, unreliable, or it just doesn't handle the demands that you need of it anymore.

If it's falling short of your expectations, then upgrading to a new model just makes better sense. It will help you to get the performance that you paid for, and more.

11. There are new features you're looking for

Sometimes it's not about your technology failing, but about you outgrowing the technology that you've got. Technology is advancing quickly, and every new device that comes out comes with better features that make life easy. Not only that, but these features and apps make life more fun and more efficient.

Whether it's a camera with a better low light performance, or a new display that is sharper and brighter, the latest models have features you may covet and you may not want to miss out on. If you find yourself longing for these upgrades, you should make the move and get the technology that keeps you excited and ahead of the curve.

12. You are ready for a change

Sometimes you don't need a reason. Sometimes, all of these reasons we've listed really don't matter because what it comes down to is that you want something new. If the device that you have is no longer sparking joy for you then it's time to have an upgrade and get a fresh start. A new phone, laptop, or tablet can bring some excitement and motivation back into your daily routine. This is your opportunity to explore new features.

Upgrading your technology doesn't have to be difficult. You can recycle it and feel good about how you’ve used it, or sell it on so that you can use the money to buy new technology. Technology will be evolving even as you buy the next piece of technology that will be something new being created. Keep your eye on the prize
